Dr Cheng completed his Bachelor of Dental Science with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland before undertaking a Master of Philosophy at the University of Sydney. He later completed his specialist training in Periodontics at the University of Queensland, earning a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry.

During his specialist training he received several awards for his work, including the Dean’s Commendation Prize and the Colgate-Palmolive Research Prize for excellence in periodontal research.

Dr Cheng specialises in the treatment of gum disease, regeneration of gum and bone defects, aesthetic crown lengthening and dental implant placement. He is also recognised as a certified specialist in periodontology and implant dentistry by the European Federation of Periodontology.
