A proper assessment helps determine whether crown lengthening is suitable, how much gum reshaping is needed and whether the treatment is functional, cosmetic or both.

Every case starts with an assessment. Your clinician will examine the tooth, gumline and surrounding bone, and may recommend imaging to understand the area properly.
If crown lengthening is recommended, you will be told why it is needed, how much gum or bone reshaping may be involved and how the procedure fits into your wider dental treatment plan.
Crown lengthening is planned around your comfort. Depending on your case, this may involve local anaesthetic and, where suitable, sedation options. Your clinician will explain the most appropriate option before treatment begins.
The gum tissue is carefully reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. In some cases, a small amount of bone around the tooth may also need to be adjusted so the gum can heal in a stable position.
